In the early 21st century, Europe faced a maritime refugee crisis of unprecedented scale, reaching a tragic peak in April 2015 when deaths at sea rose to record levels. For many refugees embarking on this perilous journey by boat, the path to Europe represented a daunting and treacherous endeavour, often originating from nations devastated by war or upheaval. Those undertaking the journey rarely had a clear understanding of how or if it would end, making survival an uncertain prospect.

Blind Spot Observer reflects on these significant events and the profound implications of forced resettlement. The work explores both the physical dangers encountered during the journey and the emotional and psychological burdens carried by displaced individuals.

Using a visual language that juxtaposes fragility with intensity, the project seeks to illuminate overlooked moments —the blind spots— of these human experiences. Through the use of found materials, fragmented imagery, and layered compositions, it constructs a narrative that compels viewers to confront aspects of the crisis often left unseen in mainstream representations.

Blind Spot Observer aims to highlight the multifaceted nature of migration, uncovering narratives of vulnerability, resilience, and survival while encouraging deeper reflection on the broader social and political frameworks that shape these movements.
