– Anekdota –

The word 'anecdote' (from the Greek: ἀνέκδοτον, meaning 'unpublished' literally 'not given out') can be traced back to Procopius of Caesarea, the biographer of Justinian I. Procopius produced a work titled 'Ἀνέκδοτα' (Anekdota), often translated as 'Unpublished Memoirs' or 'Secret History', which primarily recounts brief incidents from the private life of the Byzantine court.

In the series 'Anekdota', the origins of the small 'Nature Morte' assemblages are often rooted in real events or fictional stories. Central to the series is an exploration of the tension between true and fabricated stories, posing the question of how reality is perceived when the boundary between fact and fiction becomes ambiguous.

The postcard serves as the anchor point of the series. It functions as both a tangible artifact and a symbolic fragment of a broader narrative. By combining it with found materials, a distinct aesthetic and visual language is created, often evoking an anachronistic quality. This intentional sense of displacement disrupts the viewer's perception, prompting questions about the authenticity of the presented narratives and encouraging engagement with the layers of meaning embedded in each composition.

In 'Anekdota', the series highlights the delicate relationship between memory, representation, and truth, offering a visual experience that oscillates between intimacy and detachment, reality and illusion.
